SongJiang District is situated approximately 46 kilometres southwest of ShangHai on the upper reaches of the HuangPu (Yellow) River, covering an area of 604 square kilometers. In the ancient times the area was know as "HuaTing" and was renamed as SongJiang County in Tang Dynasty (751 A.D.). Before ShangHai opened its trading ports to foreign countries, SongJiang was the political, economic and cultural center of the ShangHai area.
The main attractions for living in SongJiang include living next to the National Tourist Resort and the largest man made lake in ShangHai. The National Tourist Resort of SheShan comprises some 47 square kilometres and is the only area in ShangHai that offers scenic mountain views. A fusion of Chinese and foreign cultures, SheShan National Tourist Resorts attracts tourists and residents to it natural and cultural significance. At the northwest part of the new urban area of SongJiang there is a growing modern town of universities. In the near future it will be a world-class advanced area of academics and research. The SongJiang district has become a popular weekend destination for many tourists with its natural beauty and sprawling landscapes.
